Custom Retail Backroom Labels
A store backroom changes every week: a new floor set, a truck to process, a pile of returns and a seasonal reset coming. Shelf strips and marker on cardboard do not keep up. Our labels are big white words on a solid color field with magnets on the back, so a new hire can find Overstock or Returns from the stockroom door and you can move the label when the zone moves.
How to zone a stockroom with labels
Split the room by what happens to the product next. A Receiving zone for freight that is not checked in, a Processed zone for freight that is tagged and ready for the floor, and an Overstock or Backstock zone organized by department, such as Apparel, Footwear, Housewares or Electronics. Label the end of each gondola run so the aisle reads from the door.
Keep problem product separate and obvious. Returns, Damaged, RTV, Recalls and Do Not Sell each get their own shelf with a clear label, so nothing that should go back to a vendor ends up back on the sales floor. A Holds or Pickups shelf for customer orders saves the walk around the room when someone is waiting at the register.
Do magnets stick to stockroom shelving?
Each label carries exposed N52 neodymium magnets that sit right on the metal. Gondola uprights, gondola shelf edges and back panels, steel boltless shelving and steel storage cabinets are all ferrous, so the labels grip hard and come off cleanly when the backroom gets reset. Chrome wire shelving is usually steel too, but the thin wire gives less contact, so a solid shelf edge holds best.
Wood shelving, plastic totes, cardboard and aluminum fixtures are not magnetic. For those, choose the 3M VHB adhesive backing option in the builder. It is semi-permanent, so use it for zones that never move.
Seasonal resets without relabeling
Seasonal is where magnets earn their keep. Put Holiday, Seasonal and Promo labels on the shelves that hold the next set, then move them to a different run when the set goes to the floor. Fixtures, Signage and Hangers get permanent spots of their own, since those are the things everyone hunts for during a reset.
Wipe labels with a damp cloth or a mild cleaner. They are PLA plastic, so keep them away from heaters, the trash compactor area and any spot in direct sun through a dock door.
Color coding the backroom
Workshop Red is our default here because it pulls the eye in a room full of brown boxes. A useful split is red for problem product (Returns, Damaged, RTV), blue for customer orders and black for general stock. Each order prints in one color, so place one order per color, each with its own 5-label minimum.
Retail Backroom label sets
Ready-made sets of the words this trade labels most, grouped by where they go. Each set opens in the builder with every label in place; add, remove or retype any of them before you order.
Receiving and Returns labels
Magnetic stockroom labels for receiving and returns. Split the back door area by what happens next to the product. Freight to check in, freight ready for the floor, and returns, damages and recalls that must not go back out each get a clearly labeled spot.

Stockroom Zones labels
Magnetic backstock shelf labels for retail. Label the end of each gondola run so the stockroom reads from the door. Overstock, seasonal and clearance zones move every reset, and a magnetic label moves with them in seconds.

Department Aisles labels
Magnetic department labels for stockroom shelving. Organize backstock by the same departments as the sales floor. A new hire filling the floor finds footwear or housewares from the end of the aisle, and recovery after a busy weekend goes faster.

Magnetic store supply shelf labels. Fixtures, signage and register supplies take over a backroom if they have no home. Label a shelf for each so hangers, sizers, bags and price tags are easy to find during a floor set or a rush.

Retail Backroom label questions
Do magnetic labels stick to gondola shelving?
Yes. Gondola uprights, shelf edges and back panels are steel, so the exposed N52 magnets grip directly and can be moved during a reset.
What should I label in a retail stockroom?
Most stores label by flow and department: Receiving, Processed, Overstock, Returns, Damaged, RTV, Holds and Seasonal, plus department zones like Apparel or Housewares.
Will the labels work on plastic totes or wood shelves?
Magnets do not stick to plastic or wood. Choose the 3M VHB adhesive backing option in the builder for those surfaces.
How long can a label be?
Up to 12 characters, and the real limit is printed width, up to 243mm. The builder checks every word live before you order.
How fast do custom stockroom labels ship?
They are printed to order in Oregon and ship in 3 to 5 business days with free US shipping.
