Custom Commercial Kitchen Labels
A kitchen runs on everyone putting things back in the same place. Our labels mark walk-in shelving, dry storage racks, line stations and food truck bins in heavy white lettering on Workshop Red, Heritage Black or Cobalt Blue, big enough to read across a crowded walk-in.
What to label first in a commercial kitchen
Start where the most time gets lost: the walk-in and dry storage. Label shelves by category (Produce, Dairy, Proteins, Poultry, Seafood) so deliveries get put away in the same spot every time and the closing crew can do inventory without hunting. In dry storage, split Dry Goods into Flour, Sugar, Rice and Canned so a prep cook can grab the right case on the first try.
A Use First or FIFO label on the front of each shelf section is a simple habit that supports good rotation. It does not replace your date labels or your health department requirements, but it makes the right behavior the easy one.
Magnets or VHB: what actually sticks in a kitchen
Be honest about your surfaces. Most stainless prep tables, reach-ins and many walk-in wall panels are 304 stainless or coated aluminum, and magnets will not hold on them. For those, choose the 3M VHB adhesive backing in the builder. It is semi-permanent and stays put through daily wipe-downs.
Magnets work well on painted or chrome-plated steel wire shelving, steel dry storage racks, steel cabinets and the steel interior walls of many food truck builds. Test with a fridge magnet first. If it grabs hard, the exposed N52 magnets will grab much harder, and you can move labels when the menu or layout changes.
Food truck bins and tight spaces
On a truck, every bin and cubby has to earn its place, and things shift on the road. Label bins by job: To-Go, Paper Goods, Sauces, Smallwares, Backstock. Labels print up to 12 characters and 34mm tall, so keep words short and the text stays large. Condensed fits longer words on narrow shelf lips.
Keep Chemicals and Sanitizer labeled and stored below and away from food, in a different color from your food storage labels. Red for food, black for chemicals and blue for paper and smallwares is an easy code to teach.
Heat and cleaning limits you should know
These labels are PLA plastic, which softens around 55 to 60C. Keep them off ovens, fryers, flat tops, steam tables, hood panels and anything that goes through the dishwasher. They are signage for shelves and bins, not for food contact, and are not rated for submersion. Wipe them with a damp cloth or mild cleaner during your normal cleaning routine.
Commercial Kitchen label sets

Commercial Kitchen label questions
Do magnetic labels stick to stainless steel prep tables?
Usually not. Most kitchen stainless is 304 grade, which is non-magnetic, and many walk-in panels are aluminum. Choose the 3M VHB adhesive backing for those surfaces and save magnets for steel wire shelving and steel racks.
Can I put these labels inside a walk-in cooler or freezer?
Yes, they are fine on walk-in shelving in cold, damp air. Wipe off condensation with a damp cloth as needed. Keep them away from heat sources like ovens, fryers and steam tables, since PLA softens around 55 to 60C.
Are these labels safe to touch food?
No. They are shelf and bin signage, not food contact items, and they are not food-safe or dishwasher-safe. Mount them on the outside of shelves, racks and bins, never inside food containers.
What are good labels for a food truck?
Short job-based words on bins and cubbies work best: To-Go, Paper Goods, Sauces, Spices, Smallwares, Backstock and Sanitizer. Use VHB on aluminum or stainless walls and magnets on steel.
How much do custom kitchen labels cost and how fast do they ship?
Five labels are $13.99 and each extra label is $2.00, with lower prices past 25 and 50 labels. They print to order and ship from Oregon in 3 to 5 business days with free US shipping.
