Custom Machine Shop Labels

A machinist hunting for an ER32 collet or a 3/8 carbide end mill is a machine that is not cutting. Our magnetic labels put big, plain names on every tooling cabinet drawer, holder rack and inspection cabinet. Heavy white lettering on a solid color field, held on with exposed N52 magnets.

How to organize a CNC tooling cabinet with labels

Label by tool family first, then split by size or material. A typical tooling cabinet runs End Mills, Drills, Taps, Reamers, Spot Drills and Inserts, with a separate drawer or two for Carbide versus HSS. Holder carts and collet drawers work better labeled by taper and system: CAT40, BT30, HSK63, ER32, ER16. Keep the fine detail (diameter, flute count, coating) on the tool box or in the tool crib system, and use the drawer label to get the operator to the right drawer fast.

The Condensed font fits longer words like Micrometers and Countersink while keeping the letters tall, which matters when a drawer front is narrow. Each label is up to 12 characters, and the builder measures every word so you know it fits before ordering.

Do magnets hold on machine shop cabinets?

Most modular drawer cabinets, tool carts and holder racks are painted steel, which our exposed N52 magnets grip hard. Because the magnets sit directly on the surface, the labels stay put through drawer slams and normal shop vibration, and you can rearrange them any time you reslot the cabinet.

Two cautions. Magnets collect chips, so keep labels on cabinet faces away from the chip stream and wipe them with a damp cloth when they pick up swarf. And they do not stick to aluminum fixture plates, most stainless or plastic tool crib bins; choose the 3M VHB adhesive option for those.

Keep labels out of the machine enclosure

Our labels are PLA plastic. PLA softens around 55 to 60C and is not chemical-proof, so they do not belong inside a machine enclosure, on a spindle head or anywhere coolant, cutting oil or way lube will soak them. Mount them on the tooling cabinet, the presetter bench and the inspection area instead, where the machinist reads them before walking to the machine.

For inspection, a separate color makes the QC area obvious from across the floor. Many shops run Heritage Black for tooling, Cobalt Blue for measurement (Calipers, Micrometers, Gauge Pins, Indicators) and Workshop Red for anything on hold. To color-code, place one order per color; each has its own 5-label minimum.

Machine Shop label sets

Ready-made sets of the words this trade labels most, grouped by where they go. Each set opens in the builder with every label in place; add, remove or retype any of them before you order.

Cutting Tool Cabinet labels

Magnetic cnc tooling cabinet drawer labels. Label the tooling cabinet by tool family first, then split carbide from HSS. The operator walks to the right drawer for an end mill, spot drill or tap without pulling every drawer in the cabinet while the spindle sits idle.

Holder and Collet Cart labels

Magnetic tool holder cart labels for collets. Holder carts and collet drawers read best by taper and system. Label CAT40, BT30 and HSK63 positions plus each collet size, so a holder goes back to the right spot and the pull studs and wrenches stay with them.

Workholding Drawers labels

Magnetic workholding drawer labels for vise jaws. Vise jaws, parallels and clamping kits pile up fast near the mill. Label each drawer so soft jaws stay with soft jaws, the step blocks and studs stay together, and setup goes faster on the next job.

Inspection Bench labels

Magnetic inspection bench labels for gauges. Measuring tools get their own labeled drawers at the inspection bench, plus clear status spots for parts. Accepted, Reject and Hold labels on the shelf keep a bad part from slipping into a finished lot.

Machine Job Board labels

Magnetic job board labels for machine shops. Fixed field headers for the whiteboard that tracks work on each machine. Write the job, part number and due date beside each header, and move the status labels as a job goes from setup to running to done.

How ordering works

  1. Pick your words. Tap suggestions, start from a pack, or type your own. Set a quantity for each label.
  2. Choose color and font. Workshop Red, Heritage Black or Cobalt Blue, with a live preview measured to the millimeter.
  3. We print and ship. Each set is 3D-printed to order in Oregon and ships in 3 to 5 business days, free in the US.

Pricing

The same price as our custom order page: $13.99 for the first 5 labels, $2.00 for each label after that, with a 5-label minimum. Big orders get cheaper: extra labels past 25 drop to $1.75 and past 50 to $1.50. There is no maximum order size. Magnets are included. Adhesive backing (3M VHB, for non-magnetic surfaces) is an optional add-on; its price is confirmed at order and is not included in the prices above.

Machine Shop label questions

Will magnetic labels stick to a Lista or Vidmar style drawer cabinet?

Painted steel modular drawer cabinets are a good fit for our exposed N52 magnets. If a drawer front is aluminum or plastic, choose the 3M VHB adhesive backing option instead.

Can I put these labels inside a CNC machine?

No. They are PLA plastic, which softens around 55 to 60C and is not rated for coolant or cutting oil exposure. Use them on tooling cabinets, holder carts and inspection benches outside the enclosure.

Do the magnets pick up chips?

Yes, like any magnet they attract steel chips if they are in the chip stream. Mount them away from the machine and wipe them with a damp cloth when needed.

Can I fit tool sizes like 1/4 or 3/8 on a label?

Yes, up to 12 characters per label, including numbers and fractions written with a slash. The builder checks the printed width of every word before you order.

How fast do custom machine shop labels ship?

They are printed to order in Oregon and ship in 3 to 5 business days with free US shipping.
